Using Browser-Based Captions for Live Events on GoBrunch

Although GoBrunch does not natively support captioning for live events, you can utilize browser-based solutions such as Google Chrome's Live Caption feature to access real-time captions without needing any extensions. Here, we provide a guide on activating captions in Google Chrome, as well as steps for Firefox and Microsoft Edge if you prefer using these browsers.

For Google Chrome

Step 1: Update Google Chrome

Ensure that you are using Google Chrome version 89 or later. You can update Chrome by navigating to the three-dot menu at the top right corner, selecting "Help," and then "About Google Chrome."

Step 2: Access Settings

Click on the three dots in the upper right corner of the Chrome browser to open the menu. From there, select "Settings."

Step 3: Navigate to Advanced Settings

In the Settings menu, scroll down and click on "Advanced" to expand more options.

Step 4: Go to Accessibility Settings

Find and click on "Accessibility" within the Advanced settings menu.

Step 5: Enable Live Caption

In the Accessibility settings, locate the "Live Caption" option and toggle it on. Chrome will download the necessary speech recognition files required for captioning.

Step 6: Using Live Caption

Once enabled, Chrome will automatically start captioning any video or audio played in the browser. A caption box will appear at the bottom of your content, displaying captions in real-time.

For Firefox

As of now, Firefox does not have a built-in feature equivalent to Chrome's Live Caption. Users seeking real-time captioning might consider third-party extensions or external services that can provide similar functionality.

For Microsoft Edge

Step 1: Update Microsoft Edge

Ensure your Edge browser is up to date, as captioning features are generally part of newer updates.

Step 2: Access Settings

Open the menu by clicking on the three dots in the upper right corner, then select "Settings."

Step 3: Navigate to Accessibility Settings

In the left panel of the Settings menu, click on "Accessibility."

Step 4: Enable Live Caption

Similar to Chrome, Edge offers a "Live Caption" feature. Turn this option on to allow the browser to start captioning media played within the browser.
